Fenty Beauty | My First Purchases

fenty beauty cosmetics, mattemoiselle lipstick ya dig?!, amber match stix contour, swatches, review, first impressions

Truth be told, I wasn't eagerly anticipating the release of Fenty beauty, desperately waiting to get my hands on this latest venture from the beaut Rihanna. That is until I saw RawBeautyKristi try out the highlighters, followed by RiRi launching the gorgeous Mattemoiselle lipsticks.

That said, it still took me a while to pluck up the courage (and scrape the funds together) to splash out on some products. The Mattemoiselle lipstick in Ya Dig?! was my first port of call - this gorgeous lilac-toned powder blue is unlike anything else in my collection, as it steers away from being a straight-up bright blue or a deep dark cobalt or navy. I was a little sceptical of it at first because, well, me and lipsticks have only just started getting reacquainted with each other, years after using liquid-lipstick only. I was also sceptical because matte formulas in plain ol' lipsticks have never been a good idea. Fortunately, this lippy is creamy, pigmented and comfortable, making it a real winner of a formula. Available in an nice variety of shades - that I hope will continuously be added to! -, I already have my eye on a couple of more colours that I want. The only complaint I will make is that it is an incredibly small amount of product, like the bullet is teeny tiny, much slimmer than I expected! The good thing about this though as it means you have a bit more precision to apply the product - I find traditional bullets are often messy. It has a gorgeous inscription on the top of the Fenty Beauty logo which I think is such a gorgeous detail to include (although at first made me not want wear it because I'd ruin it). The packaging is stunning and although it's classic and effortless, it looks like a super fancy piece of kit.

The second product I picked up actually wasn't on my radar at first. I love the idea of the Match Stix products, all of which snap together with each other magnetically meaning they'll be great to pop in your travel make-up bag. Available in matte formulas for skin and contouring, and in a shimmer formula for highlighter, there is an abundance of shades available for you to mix and match as you please, or you can buy one of the pre-made trios to match your skin tone. After a lot of debating - as I initially wanted to buy myself a trio -, I eventually decided to treat myself to a fancy contour. I was definitely feeling brave when I picked this as I'm often more of a powder product person than cream, but I'm so happy I picked this up! I chose the shade 'Amber' which isn't as daunting as it looks in the product pictures online, and is the perfect, cool-toned, soft brown for fair skinned girls to contour with. It's extremely creamy and easy to apply (think of it as a similar texture to Make-Up Revolution's Fast Base Foundation Sticks) and it blends out beautifully (I use a stippling brush), although it's easy to over-blend sometimes. I like that it adds a really defined shadow to my cheekbones though, and it's such a great product to pop on and blend out without any time or effort. Next on my list is definitely the concealer version and highlight!

I like using the Match Stix contour so much it's actually made it's way into my Holy Grail products already! Check the remainder of my holy grail products here!
