Wedding Guest Make-Up Picks

Since I'll be a wedding guest in less than two weeks, I figured it was about time I shared some of my beauty picks for attending one. As much as I love my coloured eyes, I often find myself wearing a pastel dress and as a result, I pair it with neutral make-up - the boldest option I've ever found myself considering is a berry lip!

For eye make-up, two palettes really spring to mind here. First is the Burning Embers palette by Make-Up Academy. It's £8 for 25 pigmented and easy to use shades, and the possibilities of looks you can create with the palette are endless. From shimmering, metallic bronzes to hot pinks and champagne highlights, as well as matte transition shades, you have everything you need packed into this handy palette. I'll be using some of the shades for the wedding at the end of the month, paired with my recently purchased NYX Lid Lingerie in Sweet Cloud, a beautiful bronze-toned liquid eyeshadow that dries down and doesn't budge. It's a gorgeous metallic shade and has done me no wrong so far - I'll be sharing more on these drugstore gems next month, so keep your eyes peeled!

Another palette that I think would be a fantastic head-turner is the BH Cosmetics Foil Eyes 28 Color Eyeshadow Palette. It contains a really mix of colours, pastels and neutrals. I actually prefer to use the shades dry rather than wet and boy do they pack a punch - they are so beautiful, incredibly pigmented and give a really gorgeous range of colours. The pinks and purples would look sugary-sweet for an alternative wedding guest look, but if all else fails, there's plenty of neutrals to fall back on.

Make sure to prep your eyelids before hand with a long-lasting base - Urban Decay's Eyeshadow Primer Potion is my weapon of choice!

I'm all about dewy skin and a natural but gorgeous glow and shimmer when it comes to wedding guest make-up. My top pick would be Topshop's Cresecent Moon Highlighter because I'm legit obsessed with this product. I've seen nobody rave about it and I don't know why, it's beautiful, pigmented and gives you a real glow, and it's worth every penny. You can check out what it looks like on the skin here. This is a real go-to product for me, especially if I'm keeping to a neutral look.

Another powder highlight I'd recommend is MUA's Undress Your Skin Highlighter in Peach Diamond, it's a white-ish highlight with a pink shift that adds dimension and shimmer to your skin without looking unnatural or too stark.

An old favourite product of mine is the Barry M Light Me Up Liquid Highlighter. It's dewy and glowy and its rose-gold tones make it a very unqiue shade. It works well on my fair skin and I can imagine it suiting any skin tone because it's such a flattering and gorgeous shade. The trick with this product is a little goes a long way - I recommend not using the pump as you'll get far too much product. Instead, unscrew the cap and dab some on, building up as required.

I have so many options for this part! Despite my ruthless make-up declutters from 2017, I still find myself gravitating towards new lip products above all else, and I buy new ones all the time. One of these new ones is No Tea No Shade by Jeffree Star Cosmetics. I personally think this one will work really well with a dewy base and neutral eye look, especially if you have notes of plum in your dress. The one I'm wearing to my brother's wedding does, so this is a lip colour I'm contemplating - but it's currently tied with Sugarpill's Trinket Liquid Lipstick, a gorgeous rosy mauve with gold shimmer that becomes more apparent as the lip product it wears. Both are amazing lip formulas as they're comfortable and long-lasting, but I think Sugarpill has a bit more of an upper-hand as it will need next to no touch ups through the night.

Alternatively, NYX's Soft Matte Lip Cream in Rome makes one of my favourite everyday nude shades. The SMLC line isn't the most hard-wearing and it will likely need a lot of touch ups through the day, but it is a beautiful pinky nude that I think is really flattering. In a similar vein, the Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Gemini is incredibly comfortable and beautiful shade. It's not quite the same as Rome but they're definitely in the same family, with Gemini being more brown than pink. This one wears really well and I found I only needed to touch up a tiny bit in the centre of my lips when I wore this to my first - and so far, only - wedding which I attended in 2016 as Jack's date.

Last, but not least, it's a head-turning colour but I don't think it's too bold a choice, Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Pussy Whipped is one of my all time favourite colours. It's a golden shade that runs more peach than yellow, making it a superb choice for pairing with neutral eyes as it isn't going to be too stark or crazy of a lip option. My favourite way to wear this is actually with pink or plum eyes but in all honesty? It looks good with just about anything.

L-R: Pussy Whipped, Rome, Trinket, Gemini, No Tea No Shade.
