I'm actually so excited to share this post, guys, cos this is like the first make-up dupe I've found by myself haha! Before a trip to Primark last month, I'd had a little browse on the website and noticed they had matte-drying liquid lipsticks on their site. I tried not to get too excited because, well, a lot of what's on Primark's website isn't in any of my local stores, or in the Livingston store. Luckily for me I walked right in and one of the first things I saw was a shelf of these liquid lipsticks above a clothing rack, so I had a good nosy at all the colours - there were a few more in the actual beauty section of the store - and eventually settled on two. The first one I picked up was a dark purple called Kiki, similar to Make-Up Revolution's 'Black Heart' but more of a deep purple than a blackened purple. The second one I got is the one I'm talking about today and it's called Kendall (bleurgh). It's a neutral, but it's got this grey, dusky tone to it, and I was immediately drawn to it, as I am anything dusky and grey-toned - although that's not saying much as there isn't a lot of these kinds of shades knocking about. When I got home I popped it next to my acrylic lipstick holder and noticed Gerard Cosmetics 'Invasion' standing in the holder right next to it, and then it clicked how similar these shades were!

Top: Kendall / Bottom: Invasion
Basically, the Hydra Matte line by Gerard Cosmetics is an extremely creamy and comfortable formula, with each shade being totally pigmented and bold in just a few coats. Invasion is by far one of my favourite neutral-with-a-twist lip products with its grey tone and overall dusky finish, and it dries down to be comfortably matte without drying the lips. It retails for different prices, but usually around the £9.50 mark, which is pretty cheap for such an enjoyable product. There are loads of shades to choose from in the line, and whilst the wear time isn't amazing, they at least stay comfortable throughout the day.

On the other hand, the Primark Super Matte Liquid Lipsticks retail at a mere £2 a pop, and although the shades are much more limited, I reckon they'll be expanding as the seasons go on. I was really taken aback when I first swatched Kendall (and Kiki, too, but let's focus on Kendall) on my lips, as it was initially very comfortable, very opaque, and it wasn't streaky or patchy at all, which is insane given the inexpensive price tag. Whilst these do come away without a lot of effort as soon as you start eating, I find they withstand drinking okay (although I often use a straw anyway) and my only real complains are that 1) it has one of those long, flat, annoying applicators much like Sleek's Matte Me used to have, but on the plus side it does have a slight slant to it on one side so it's not totally useless, but I find applying product to my upper lip difficult with it, and that 2) upon reapplication, the formula can go crumbly and flaky towards the inner parts of your lips which is mega annoying. It's definitely worth taking the original layer off and starting from scratch to avoid this. It's obviously not as creamy and non-drying as Invasion, but it's the harder one to get off at the end of the day, I find!

The main differences? First let's start with formula. Like I said above, Kendall isn't quite as comfortable to wear. Kendall is a little thinner in consistency and can be built up, where as Invasion is creamy and thick right off the bat and it doesn't take much to apply. I think Kendall is a little more hard-wearing given the lack of creaminess and comfort, and it does take a bit more work to get off at the end of the day than Invasion does - that said, it does have crumbling issues upon reapplication unlike Invasion, but both are not the longest wearing overall when they come in contact  with food. It's worth noting that the colours are slightly different - I feel Invasion is more brownish, and Kendall is more purple-ish, but both carry that grey tone that makes them both very unique shades. If you're not sure if the colour is right for you, or you reckon you'll only wear it once in a blue moon, I'd say give the Primark products a shot first before you start splashing out on more expensive items.

Left: Kendall / Right: Invasion (probs should have waited for it to dry down but oh well)

What do you think of the Super Mattes from Primark?
