Today I'm sharing some of my favourite products for capturing that mermaid beauty look for under five pounds. I'm thinking of doing a second segment to this for items between £5-£10 - maybe include some more unicorn inspired beauty things? Would you guys be interested in that? Have a read of this post and let me know at the end!

MERMAIDS VS UNICORNS PALETTE, £4 | MAKE-UP REVOLUTION

C'mon, you knew this was going to come up so I figured I should mention it first cos it's the most obvious one! I picked this up on a shopping trip to Glasgow back in March because I'd been eyeing it up for absolute ages. The pigmentation of these shadows, as expected from Make-Up Revolution, is fantastic. They are gorgeously smooth shadows and are so easy to apply. There are lots of blues, greens and teals, as well as pinks, purples, and smokier tones to suit whatever mood you're in. It provides heaps of different combinations, and if you still want more, MUR have a heap of Unicorn & Mermaid inspired palettes and lipsticks that are worth checking out.

I recently did a look with this palette which you can watch here!

COLOUR SPHERE EYESHADOW DUO IN 107, £3.40 | KIKO MILANO

This baked duo of goodness was kindly brought back by my parents from their trip to Italy last year. It took me a while to get round to trying it out, but, as I'd never tried anything by Kiko before, I was completely surprised by the stunning pigmentation and colour combination of these two shades. They definitely make the perfect duo for a mermaid eye look, and both contain an evident glitter to them for sparkly, magical wonderfulness. Down to a mere £3.40 (from its usual price of £6.40), this is definitely one worth snatching up while you can.

SINGLE EYESHADOW IN ELECTRIC PURPLE, £1 | MAKE-UP ACADEMY

If there's something I can't fault MUA on, its their eyeshadows. No matter what singles I try out, no matter what palettes I use, their shades hit the nail on the head every time. This Electric Purple colour does not disappoint. The only way to describe it is, well, electric. It's a stunning bright purple with a beautiful blue duo-chrome shimmer effect to it that I can't get enough of. Whenever I'm putting together a purple eye-look, this has to be included. I'd like to get a collection of these shadows as they are so good from the handful I've tried!

SOLO EYESHADOW IN SECRET LAGOON & SNOW STORM, £1.99 EACH | NATURAL COLLECTION

I'm currently obsessed with these single eyeshadows by Natural Collection, a brand exclusively sold at Boots. They are probably a brand a lot of us associate with being a young teen where we were too broke to buy anything but £1.99 make-up, but I've made some fantastic discoveries by them this year, my absolute favourite being this line. I couldn't resist picking up this stunning bright green/teal shade called Secret Lagoon, as I knew it would make a perfect mermaid eye piece, especially with the summer months coming up too, as I picked up this shade back in April. Soft and pigmented, this shadow is a total steal. It has silver glitter in it too to give you that extra boost of shimmer.

Snow Storm makes a perfect inner corner highlight for any and all looks - mermaid eyes included. It's a pearly white, but it comes off with this gorgeous purple duo-chrome sort of look when you actually apply it to the eyes - you can't really see it in the swatches, but I used this in my Civil War make-up tutorial where its purple tones are much more apparent!

PUMP UP BOOSTER KHOL KAJAL IN GLEAMING TURQUOISE, £2.99 | MISS SPORTY

A fat twist-up crayon, this reminds me a lot of the Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Stick in Tempting Turquoise, as in, this is almost the exact same product. I haven't worn this on the waterline, but I've worn it on the skin and for being such an inexpensive product, it does put up a good fight in terms of staying power. Mostly I'll wear this as a base for a matching eyeshadow, but sometimes I wear it for a pop of colour on the lower lashline. Whilst Miss Sporty is a brand that, like Natural Collection, a lot of people overlook and assume is aimed at the really young end of the teenager spectrum, I've found a surprisingly awesome bunch of products for them in the last six months, and this is definitely one I want to purchase in other shades.

GLAM CRYSTALS DAZZLING GEL LINER IN LE FREAK, £2.99 | COLLECTION

These eyeliners, for such a small price tag, perform beautifully. Not everyone gets on with these but I have no real issue for them! For maximum impact I'd recommend wearing these over an eyeliner or shadow of a similar shade, just to give the colour an extra boost, but these can be worn alone too, of course. They're great for pairing with a regular black wing to add something different by lining above your regular wing, and overall for £2.99, I personally don't think you can go wrong with these. Glittery, opaque and in a range of gorgeous colours, they are a real head-turner. The pink shade in this line isn't one that I own, but I have swatched it - it would be perfect for some unicorn awesomeness!

LONG LASTING LIP GLOSS #11, 99p | DRAGON

I found these liquid lipsticks on eBay, ranging from anywhere from 99p to £1.99. Despite what the name suggests, these liquid lipsticks dry down to a matte finish that's surprisingly not too uncomfortable for a mere 99p a piece. #11 is by far my favourite out of the bunch for its opaque coverage and pack-a-punch bright colour, although it's probably worth throwing a lip liner on underneath just in case. There are other shades in this line, but of the ones I've tried, this one is the most impressive, although the green, in terms of colour, is probably my favourite. I did, however, think it was a tad too dark for a unicorn or mermaid look. Each to their own though, and you can see a swatch of the green shade in the review mentioned above. Matte, not too drying and rather robust for a 99p liquid lipstick, I feel I really can't complain.

SALVATION VELVET LACQUER IN DEPRAVITY & KEEP LYING FOR YOU, £3 EACH | MAKE-UP REVOLUTION

I've harped on about these before, I'm pretty sure, but the Make-Up Revolution Salvation Velvet Lacquers are a real bargain from the drugstore. They aren't quite budge proof, and can be a little drying, but for £3, they are definitely worth checking out if you're on a tight budget. Whilst there are heaps of other colours available, these two shades I thought were most appropriate for the unicorn or mermaid look, with Depravity being a seriously in-your-face bright lilac-purple colour, and Keep Lying For You a more sort of berry-toned, but still unique and bright, pinkish-purple shade. Expect these to lose the battle when it comes to eating food, but they put up one hell of a fight for £3, and sometimes these flake away on me too, but they are seriously pigmented and opaque, and dry down to a matte finish.

Top-Bottom: Depravity / #11 / Keep Lying for You

Last but not least, I thought I'd throw in some of my favourite cheap highlighters for that real mermaid and unicorn glow...

SPEEDY HIGHLIGHTER IN PEARL SHEEN, £3.99 | COLLECTION

I love that this has the name 'Speedy' because highlighting sticks like this are my go-to on mornings where I'm rushing about it. They are also great for a minimal make-up look or a summer make-up where you want to add some glow to your face but don't want to fuss with lots of blending. All you have to do is run this along your cheekbones and then give a quick run over it with your fingers to soften and smooth the edges.. and ta-da! A beautiful glow even Queen Nikkie herself would be jelly of. I'd love to see this available in more shades!

HIGH LIGHTS, £1.99 | TECHNIC

I only bought this somewhere in 2015, but I feel like this product, for me, is an 'old faithful'. It looks like a dupe for Benefit's High Beam, but I don't have the product to compare it to so I don't know how the formula and shades match up. This is beautiful pearly pink looking highlighter that blends away into a subtle glow. No shimmer, no glitter, just fuss-free glowy goodness. Best applied with a light hand and blended out using finger tips so it melds into your skin for a seamless, natural-looking glow.

GET GORGEOUS HIGHLIGHTER, £1.99 | TECHNIC

I had my eye on this for quite some time before I bought it. I needed replacement razor blades and I use Queen/King of Shaves (they're both the same essentially) ones so they can be quite annoying to get a hold of. Thankfully I found them on Fragrance Direct and decided to pick up some bits and pieces to make the postage a bit more worthwhile. This gorgeous little highlighter set me back a mere £1.99, and I absolutely love it. It has the odd wave-like texture on it like the MUA powder highlights do, but I never got on with those. This Technic offering is much more up my street, however. It isn't glittery or sparkly, but it adds a beautiful shimmer to the skin that really makes me feel like my skin is glowing.

The below swatches do NOT do these babies justice. Best applied to the face (but my camera isn't the best and picking up highlight) and seen in person.

That felt like such a long post to write! I hope you enjoyed this post as it was a lot of fun to put together. I'm currently highlighter-obsessed so I'm forever buying and trying new ones, and teals and purples are some of my absolute favourite shades to wear so I had a lot in my collection to choose from. Let me know if you'd like to see a part two with products under the £10 mark! What are your favourite products to get the mermaid look?
